Integrated Automatic Fare Collection System of the Athens Urban Transport PPP Project
SALFO in association with REMACO SA was appointed as the Independent Certifier (IC) for the project which involved the design, financing, maintenance and facility management for 12 years of an Integrated Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) for all the transport means of the greater Athens area, including all the thermal and electric buses, Metro line 1, Tram and suburban rail. For Metro lines 2 & 3 the existing equipment was integrated with the AFCS of the other mass transit modes. In addition, fare gates were installed to convert the metro network into a ‘closed’ system.
