Green Riyadh Program TSE (Lot 2)

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) appointed SALFO to design Lot 2 (150 km) and Lot 4 (400 km) of a major Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) transmission network, increasing its capacity from 90,000 m³/day to 1,700,000 m³/day. This vital infrastructure underpins Green Riyadh—one of the world’s most ambitious urban greening initiatives and one of four mega projects launched in 2019 under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, HM King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud.

Green Riyadh aims to plant more than 7.5 million trees across the city’s streets, districts, and public spaces, dramatically increasing per capita green space. The project exclusively uses recycled wastewater to irrigate vegetation, harnessing an otherwise wasted resource. A total of 83 native tree species were selected for their resilience to Riyadh’s arid climate, helping to reduce ambient temperatures by 8–15°C in shaded areas and enhance air quality.

By delivering a complex, high-capacity TSE network—equivalent to the volume of approximately 400 Olympic-sized pools per day—SALFO plays a central role in advancing Riyadh’s transformation into a greener, healthier, and more sustainable city in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
